The Consultative Council was established by the Minister for Health and Children on the 26th November 1996 by Statutory Instrument (S.I. No 339 of 1996), to advise the Minister on all matters relating to Hepatitis C.
The Consultative Council works hard to ensure that all HAA cardholders are informed as to their entitlements to certain health services and are provided with information on the challenges of living with Hepatitis C. To this end the Council organises events such as the annual Hepatitis C Information Day in Dublin. The day includes a comprehensive programme dealing with issues such as Nutrition and Well Being to Treatment and Transplantation. The Council also organises an International Hepatitis C Conference every 3 years. The conference includes a multi-strand programme which runs simultaneously, targeting clinicians, lay people living with Hepatitis C, GPs and other health care professionals working in the community. The Consultative Council produces a variety of Guides and booklets.
Having been paused during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Consultative Council reconvened in September 2022 & meets quarterly. If you have any issues you feel need to be addressed at Council level, please contact us. Issues which have been discussed at the Council this year include: difficulty accessing hospital care, women being discharged from care against their will, payment rates for Home Support & Home Care. Representatives always work to ensure your needs are met and concerns addressed.
